Starting August 1, 2025, Florida law requires all first-time drivers under 18 to complete the 6-hour Driver Education Traffic Safety (DETS) course to get a learner’s permit. This new program replaces the old 4-hour Drug & Alcohol (TLSAE) course for minors.
